GLOSSARY

(週末) Shuumatsu

Weekend Holidays

Flying Methods

As stated previously, day students use Giam Storm Petrels provided by the school to fly over and head back home. Full-time students have more options. Some may follow the more traditional method which is to use a small white cloud specially created for flying to head from place to place. There are others who choose to use the broom due to western influence or because they are in Quidditch.

Iwo Jima

At Iwo Jima, the summers are long, hot, oppressive, wet, and overcast. The winters are comfortable and mostly clear; and it is windy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 19 °C to 30 °C and is rarely below 17 °C or above 32 °C. It is worth noting that as Mahoutokoro sits on top of Mount Suribachi, it is slightly cooler than average.

Bonin Islands

An archipelago close to Iwo Jima, students sometimes prefer to fly there instead of to the big cities for their weekend vacation. As far as the Himahouzoku are aware, there are only two islands inhabited by people, however there are scattered small populations of wizarding communities across the rest of the tropical islands. Those who live there are often magizoologists or people with businesses who specifically cater to the students of Mahoutokoro.

Wizard Shopping Area

The equivalent of Diagon Alley exists in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, Japan. The secret to unlocking the area is to head to the Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku building at the Jingumae crossing. A specific phrase must be said three times while heading up the escalators of the kaleidoscope entrance, allowing them to travel to the hidden floors within the shopping mall.

Technology

Magic is known to often interferes with the electromagnetic radiation from appliances. Therefore, all electronics need to be modified in order to be used but once complete, they will function as if it was held by a Himahouzoku. Thankfully, hailing from a country known to be advanced in their technological adventures, it is of no surprise that Mahoutokoro is also the same. Though the building itself is ancient, students are able to have fast wifi and excellent phone reception. That can't be said for the Bonin Islands where they visit on the weekends, which is why it's often advised for students to go together.

Patronus

It is within reason to believe the witch or wizard will find their soul taking the form of an animal close to their heritage. Therefore it is more common among the wizardkind here to transform into creatures which roam across Eastern Asia. The list offered here is only to offer a guide based on the countries we listed in our pureblood families and not a limit. It is also noteworthy that there are subtle differences in species between different countries and some countries may share animal species.

  • China: Asian elephant, sable, dugong, Pallas cat, North China leopard, binturong, clouded leopard, Tibetan macaque, red panda, and the giant panda.

  • Japan: Japanese macaque, tanuki, Sika deer, red-crested crane, Japanese giant salamander, serow, Asian black bear, Japanese dwarf flying squirrel, Japanese boar, Blakiston's fish owl.

  • Korea: Korean goral, white-naped crane, water deer, Siberian musk deer, common Minke whale, Siberian tiger, Korean magpie, Amur leopard, red fox, wild boar, Korean hare

  • Vietnam: Sunda pangolin, saola, Burmese python, slow loris, water buffalos, giant muntjac, dhole, sun bear, Edward’s pheasant, kingfisher

  • Thailand: Asian water monitor lizard, king cobras, manta rays, whale shark, binturong, Siamese crocodile, dusky leaf monkeys, Lyles flying fox, Gurney’s pitta, Neill's long-tailed giant rat

Pets

The suggested pets by Mahoutokoro for the students to bring mainly falls into the smaller side given that Asia often lacks space and it makes it difficult to require living areas to accommodate animals such as dogs and cats. Therefore, it’s common to see ferrets, rabbits or hedgehogs as pets of choice. Those more interested in birds may own parakeets or Zebra finches. Of course, there are also students who own bigger animals but they are in the minority.
