MAHOUTOKORO
STUDENTS & PROFESSORS
Mahoutokoro is well-known for its peculiar day student program, which is only a topical representation of the care taken in making sure students are at their most comfortable.
Non-boarding "day" students are permitted to attend Mahoutokoro starting at 16 years of age. Younger students will take introductory magic courses, learn the basics of spells and potions, as well as get a general feel for the pace of school. They may only access daytime classes and are provided with one lunchtime meal in the main hall during midday.
Boarding students are not required to start as day students, and many day students find themselves entering as boarding students with the same class level as those who did not attend before boarding. Being a day student may improve academic ability, allowing students to board at a higher level, but this is not always the case. Many times, students benefit from being a day student by simply placing them at a level suitable to confidently begin normal magic classes.

UNIFORMS
The uniforms of Mahoutokoro School of Magic are characterized by specific aspects unique to the school. Uniforms differ depending on whether the wearer is a day student, boarding student or professor.
There is no difference between "male" and "female" uniforms; all uniforms are equipped with the same features regardless of the wearer.
While the overarching colour scheme must stay the same, many students use a small margin of flexibility to add to their uniforms. Occasionally, students might add small ornamental patterns around hems, magical stitching, or incorporate delicate brooches and pins. Generally, this is done by wealthier students who can commission unique designs. This may also be visible on the robes of students whose family once attended Mahoutokoro, with use of generational tokens.
The robes are enchanted to grow as their wearer did, and also to change colour to indicate the wearer's scholastic progress, starting off pale pink and ending up gold if top marks were achieved in every subject.
When a student broke the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, or betrayed the Japanese wizard's code by practising Dark Magic, the uniform turned white. This was considered a huge disgrace, and the student in question would immediately be expelled, and would face a trial with the Japanese Ministry of Magic.
EDUCATION LANGUAGE
Due to Mahoutokoro's location, education is given in Japanese. In case of not knowing Japanese, day students also receive a language lecture from one of the professors that has a free period. However, we expect our community members to use only English on their threads and social media posts.
TRANSPORTATION
Mahoutokoro School of Magic has a flock of giant storm petrels that are used to transport day students. Day students, who have not boarded at the Palace of Mahoutokoro yet, use them back and forth to their homes every day. Depending on the size of the giant storm petrels, the capacity of students changes. Often the number of students that can ride a giant storm petrel differs between one to four. Just as Hogwarts has a train, there’s an equivalent ferry for Mahoutokoro. While Okinawa is the closest city to the school, for convenience the ship departs in the capital city of Tokyo. It carries the full-time students from a hidden pier on Odaiba to Iwo Jima. The ferry only runs twice: once at the beginning of the school year and once at the end. There are smaller boats which run once in the morning and once in the late afternoon on the weekends, for older students who want to take a small trip. All other departures from the island during the school year must be completed through flight.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
With modernization of the world, the old usage of Xuan paper and equipment from the calligraphy set has been replaced with regular notebooks and the calligraphy pen except for calligraphy class. There’s more freedom when it comes to school supplies in general, and it’s not uncommon for people to own beautiful notebooks, use colourful gel pens, washi tape, stickers and other stuff to sort out their notes.
